If you do not have your own tackle or do not want to travel with it no problem, the EXCEL offers the finest rental packages available. Featuring Accurate two speed reels spooled with Jerry Brown Line one spectra on Seeker, Cal Star and Phenix rods. Tackle is available from our onboard shop at internet prices! The “Bent Rods” charter is a family friendly, cohesive group of anglers who fish as a team. While catching fish is obviously a top priority, having a good fishing experience by working together and enjoying each others' company is the number one priority of each trip. 85-90% of each charter is comprised of "regulars" who return year after year. T-shirts are given out to all anglers and drawings are held for a custom triple wrapped Cal-Star Grafighter rod along with various other prizes each trip. (While not a non-smoking trip, the vast majority of the anglers on these trips do not smoke. If you are a heavy smoker who must smoke while fishing or a cigar smoker, please do not sign up for this trip.)

The picture at the top of the Excel schedule page is from a previous Team Hoo trip. Charter Masters Ken Bell and Mark Dorton have been fishing multiple trips on the Excel for 16 and 20 years respectively and Team Hoo is going into its 11th season. Ken and Mark typically have 23-25 returning passengers year over year and limiting the trip to 28 anglers makes a significant difference on the rail. Team Hoo is a very friendly and welcoming group who fish hard while enjoying lots of fun and laughs each and every day. Each year, Ken and Mark give out t-shirts that are reputed to be the best shirts in the fleet along with 6-8 Avet reels sized to fit a typical 10 day trip.

These are serious cow hunt anglers going after seriously big tuna. Although they fish hard, the passengers are all eager to help each other with rigging and sharing their long-range experience. Topping it off, they have a great time with lots of fun and laughs in a friendly atmosphere. Different Trip Options:

3-6 Day Trips

Trips of 3 to 6 days duration aboard the Excel typically range south to offshore tuna grounds, possibly Guadalupe Island, or along the Baja Coast, visiting such islands as San Martin, Geronimo, Cedros and San Benitos.

During the late spring, expect the action to be best for Yellowtail, Yellowfin Tuna and a variety of other species around the islands, with the good chance of intercepting schools of Bluefin Tuna and Albacore. Summer into the fall is prime time for migratory runs of all tuna species.  Yellowtail and Dorado are also found around floating kelp paddies.

7-10 Day Trips

Our 7 to 10-day trips offer the most variety in fishing action as we explore the southwestern Baja coastline from San Pablo to Magdalena Bay, often with a run out to Alijos Rocks.  These trips are usually scheduled for early summer, and again throughout the fall months. Fishing along the inside “ridge” is outstanding for big Wahoo, Yellowtail, Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna and Marlin, with Pargo and giant Grouper being the reward for those dropping bait to the bottom.  Alijos Rocks is a hot spot for Yellowfin Tuna in the 100-pound class, Wahoo, and world record size Yellowtail.

12+ Day Trips

12+ day trips aboard the Excel target the very finest Yellowfin Tuna and Wahoo fishing in the world, ranging over 1,000 miles south to such exotic locales as Hurricane Bank, Puerto Vallarta, Cleofus Bank, or even beyond the remote Clipperton atoll.  From these prolific tropical waters, Capt. Bill Poole has returned with numerous record catches for his passengers, including the IGFA all-tackle world record Yellowfin Tuna which stood for many years and only recently beat.  In the 1970′s and 1980′s, 200 pounds was the challenge. Now, with modern technology, gear and less fish lost, Yellowfin can easily reach 300 pounds and even surpass the 400 pound mark. Scheduled from winter to spring, these longest of the long-range trips offer the ultimate in big game fishing.

Terms:

• NO CREDIT CARD SURCHARGE.
• Cost does not include Mexican excursion permits/licenses.
• If the cost of Marine Diesel fuel exceeds $2.25 per gallon, we may find it necessary to impose a fuel surcharge.
• Passports are recommended for all trips and mandatory for others. Please contact the office for details.
• The minimum deposit for any trip is $500.
• Boarding order and room assignments will be based on the initial deposit date. In the case of private charters, charter master may elect to assign rooms and boarding orders.
• When available and requested, additional charges may apply for private staterooms, plus staterooms 15 and 18.
• To compensate for any last minute cancellations, we reserve the right to overbook by one reservation on ALL trips.
• 50% of the trip cost is due 120 days prior to trip's departure date. If 50% is not received at least 120 days prior to the trip, boarding order and state room assignment is subject to change and spot may be subject to sale.
• Deposits are NON-REFUNDABLE and NON-TRANSFERABLE unless written notice of cancellation is received by postmarked mail or fax 180 days prior to the trip's departure. E-mail cancellations will not be accepted. Cancellations within 120 days of departure date will result in a minimum 10% administrative fee based on the full price of the trip. The remaining amount will be retained by Excel and used for a deposit on a trip departing within 365 days of the original trip’s departure date. If the deposit has not been used after the 365-day period has lapsed, the deposit is forfieted. Cancellations within 90 days of the trip's departure will result in deposit forfeiture unless your vacant spot is booked and the trip runs full. Cancellations for any reason within 30 days will result in deposit forfeiture.
• We strongly recommend deposit insurance (www.travelguard.com – 800-826-4919).
• All cancellations are subject to a 10% administrative fee based on the total cost of the trip.
• No refunds, credits, roll overs or adjustments of any kind will occur until the trip the deposit was originally made for has departed.
• We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.
